Telecom Sans Frontieres is a UN-sponsored organisation that sets up emergency communications links when they are wiped out in disaster areas. They not only help to co-ordinate relief efforts but also provide a "humanitarian calling operation" that allows victims to make contact with their loved ones to let them know they have survived.
